We will have the following activities planned during the retreat:
Jewelry Swap: You are welcome to bring a piece of handmade jewelry valued at a minimum of $40 to participate in our jewelry swap with fellow attendees. Bring your piece unwrapped with your name. We will place each piece in a plain brown bag for the swap.
Jewelry Contest: Students are invited to bring up to 2 handmade bead and/or jewelry creations to enter into our contest.
There will be 4 categories this year. Please include your category choice with your piece when submitting.
Metal/Mixed Media - This includes all metal work, metal clay, chainmaille, and mixed media items
Bead Weaving/Embroidery - This includes bead weaving, bead embroidery and kumihimo.
Wire Wrap/Wire Weaving/Viking Knit
Bead Stringing
There will be a prize awarded in each category and one grand prize winner.
Please turn your item(s) in to us during check in. Make sure your item and any displays are in a bag with your name. You must provide your own displays, we will have none available.
Design Challenge: The theme of the 2023 jewelry design contest is "Hummingbird". The idea behind the contest is for you to create a piece of wearable art that falls within the theme. You do not need to create a hummingbird piece of jewelry, but rather your interpretation of what a hummingbird represents in their flight, colors and life. We would like for you to write a small description of your piece that can be displayed along with it during the contest.
Charity Fundraiser - You are welcome to bring a handmade item valued at a minimum of $75 to be included in our fundraiser for K-9 for Warriors. Every dollar donated is given directly to this worthy charity. Please go to their website to see how your dollars benefit a veteran suffering from PTSD by pairing them with service dog that has been rescued and trained. Their website is https://www.k9sforwarriors.org. We raised $2435 for them in 2021.
