Straw Casting

Create a beautiful pendant, earrings or ring by casting silver into straw. Straw casting creates a unique texture reminiscent of a stalactite or stalagmite formation. Each casting is different. Once cast, students will make their pieces into a pendant, earrings or ring by either drilling or soldering on findings. Students can also choose to apply a patina or polish to a high shine.

Textured Ring - Casting with Firebrick

Create a gorgeous textured ring band using this unusual casting technique. This technique can also be used for other types of jewelry including pendants or earrings, and the ring band can also be used as a base for setting a stone or cabochon although it is plenty jazzy on its own. In this class we will just be creating the ring band. This type of casting comes from the Tufa casting technique of the Navajo, but offers a more textured surface without having to carve or create the texture by a more labor intensive process. The ring can be made adjustable or sized to fit.
